Management System Certification

Since their infancy in the late 1950s, management system standards have aimed to improve performance in companies by encouraging the development of systems and processes to consistently produce appropriate products and services and manage risk. “A good management system standard forces an organization to consider all of its processes and document them,” says Roger Bennett, director for conformity assessment bodies at the International Accreditation Forum. “If followed properly, a standard tries to enforce a culture of continual improvement – which should mean better efficiency, quality, higher security, less impact on the environment and so on,” he adds. Among the most widely implemented management system standards are ISO 9001, which gives requirements for Quality Management, ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems.

Supplier Audits

Supplier quality assurance has become an integral part of the food industry as a requirement of Food Safety Certification and the promulgation of the Consumer Protection Act.

GAP Analysis/State of readiness Audits

GAP audits are a useful tool to ascertain your readiness for certification audits and may drastically reduce non-conformances raised. These types of audits or analyses are a cost effective alternative to using costly and time consuming consulting services.

Training plays a critical role in enhancing Food Safety and Quality Assurance

Results from a pilot program conducted by the GFSI have shown that implementing dedicated food safety training for employees greatly increases a company’s ability to meet required standards. Many companies who lacked employee training, failed to meet the basic requirements.
